What is the difference between Bay Windows and Bow Windows?
Bay Windows consist of three windows in a single frame. The center lite is always twice as wide as the sidelites. Generally, Bay Windows are a combination of fixed centers, and two operable flankers (casements or double hung windows). Bay windows project out from the wall of a house 30 or 45 degrees. Bow Windows consist of 3,4 or 5 windows in a single frame. All of the windows are equal size, and are generally a combination of fixed centers and two operable flankers (casements or double hung windows.) Bow windows project from the wall of the house 15 degrees. Bow Windows are similar to Bay Windows, but the Bow's combination of windows has a more circular arch appearance. back to top

What are Garden Windows?
Garden Windows feature two end venting casement windows, a picture window, and a laminated glass roof. Garden Windows are usually installed above kitchen sinks or in dining rooms. back to top

What are Casement Windows?
Casement Windows are hinged on the left or right jamb. Casement Windows crank outward on a vertical plane to a full 90-degree swing. back to top

What are Slider Windows?
On Slider Windows, the sash moves horizontally. Sliders are available in a 2 or 3-lite configuration, with the 3-lite slider having operable end vents. back to top

What are Basement or Hopper Windows?
Windows that open inward from the top and are typically installed in basement applications. back to top

What is an Awning style window?
Awning Windows are hinged at the top, and crank from the bottom of the sash to open outward. back to top

What does 'fusion-welded' mean?
Fusion-welding is the process of joining materials by melting them together with extreme heat, at approximately 500 degrees, resulting in the materials bonding into one piece. All Park Avenue Windows feature fusion-welded frames and sashes. back to top

What does uPVC stand for?
Poly Vinyl Chloride, a plastic compound used in the manufacture of profiles for vinyl replacement windows. back to top

What is a Sill?
A sill is a horizontal profile that forms the bottom of a window frame. Park Avenue windows feature Sloped Sills, which have a downward slope to the outside to aid in water runoff. back to top

What are Air Chambers?
Small honeycomb spaces within the extruded sash and frame profiles, which help to insulate and strengthen the window. back to top

What is Air Infiltration?
The amount of air that passes between a window's sashes and frame. In windows, it is measured in terms of cubic feet of air per minute, per square foot of area. The lower the number, the less air the window lets pass through. back to top

What is a Balance System?
A balance system is a device for holding vertically sliding sashes in any position through the use of a spring or weight to counter balance the sash. back to top

What is Low-E (Emisivity) Glass?
Glass treated with a thin transparent coating of metal oxide and silver. Low-E glass allows natural light and short-wave heat energy to freely penetrate glass during the winter, while reflecting long-wave heat energy back outside during the summer months, keeping your house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Low-E glass reduces the penetration of ultraviolet rays to minimize fading of carpet and draperies. back to top

What is Krypton Gas?
Krypton Gas is an inert, odorless, colorless, tasteless, non-toxic gas that is denser than air. It is used to replace air between the glass panes to reduce temperature transfer and deter convection (heat transfer by currents that flow from a warm surface to a colder surface). Used when high glass performance is desired. back to top

What is an R-Value?
Resistance a material has to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the resistance, and better the insulating quality. back to top

What is the U-Value?
The amount of heat transferred through a material. The lower the U-value, the slower the rate of heat flow and the better the insulating value. back to top

What is the Shading Coefficient of a window?
Shading Coefficient is the ratio of solar heat that is transferred through a glazing material relative to the solar heat transferred through 1/8-inch clear glass. The lower the number, the more efficient the window is at reducing solar heat gain. back to top

What is an Insulating Glass Unit or I.G. Unit?
Two or more lights of glass separated by a spacer and hermetically sealed at the glass edges. back to top

What are Triple Pane Glass or Triple Pane Windows?
A window sash glazed with three lites of glass, enclosing two separate air spaces. back to top

What is E³-Max^® Glass?
A triple pane insulating glass system featuring two lites of Soft-Coat LoE2 glass, one lite of Annealed Float Glass and Krypton Gas charged air chambers. Krypton gas is used to replace air between the glass panes to reduce temperature transfer and deter convection (heat transfer by currents that flow from a warm surface to a colder surface). What is condensation?
The formation of water vapor from the air on any cold surface whose temperature is below the dew point. back to top

What is Tempered Safety Glass?
Tempered Safety glass is glass that has been treated with high heat for strength. If tempered safety glass is broken, it will shatter into very small pieces instead of shards. back to top

What is Ultraviolet Light Transmittance?
Portion of solar spectrum which is both visible and invisible to the human eye. Can cause fabric fading and degrading. Can also cause eye damage from prolonged exposure. back to top

What is Visible Light Transmittance?
